Violette Abou Feet
Violette Abou Jalad is a Lebanese poet who, through her poems, has dedicated herself to portraying a woman passionate about exploring herself and the world. Unlike the limitations of language, her background and culture profoundly influence her work. She transcends stereotypical and cultural constraints to write texts of profound humanity without losing the distinctive voice of an Arab woman. Since her first collection, Violette has chosen femininity as the central theme of her poetry, without confining it to stereotypical questions. In her collection *Alone on This Planet*, femininity emerged as a means for an Arab poet to question reality, and also as a way to liberate her poetic writing and break free from dominant themes, which has garnered the attention of critics and readers alike.
How can we write about love, we who have lost our limbs in petty wars! We who have let ghosts frolic in our dark rooms and made sleep a rendezvous with the companions of absence. How can we approach love with our small feet, our feet long frozen behind windows, seized by knocks on an old door? How can we serenely taste the honey of all these poets! We, children of a bitter tongue, ravaged by scars buried until the end of death. Publication: June 2, 2025 Order Press Release
