Paul and Léonore have lived together in their parents' house since their parents died in a car accident. Léo is a brilliant and eccentric young woman. Perpetually angry, she walks apart from the world and her life, can no longer stand people. Until the day she encounters a book that upsets her and grips her to the point of obsession: Montaigne's Essays. Paul then witnesses, helpless and terrified, the slow metamorphosis of his twin sister, who gradually withdraws and escapes, lets go of his hand to take the philosopher's. One morning, she disappears. Meanwhile, Jeanne writes her diary and discovers that a painful, insidious, and incurable disease courses through her veins, a sword of Damocles. Paul and Jeanne will read Montaigne in turn, unaware that a journey awaits them at the end of the road and that through the Essays, they will discover much more, starting with themselves.
