Joëlle Cuvillier

Dominique MEYER

Throughout her life, Joëlle Cuvilliez, born in 1961, has been fortunate to travel extensively, live abroad, change jobs and where she lives, and meet fascinating people from diverse backgrounds. This has allowed her to broaden her experiences, make significant connections, refine her way of being in the world, affirm her needs, and appreciate otherness. One of her greatest pleasures, aside from travel, is writing.

To celebrate her entry into "jubilación" (a term referring to her new pilgrimage), Joëlle Cuvilliez retraced the steps of the Camino de Santiago on foot. As the renowned traveler Bernard Ollivier, author of *La longue marche* (The Long Walk), notes in his preface to the book, "even if it means getting lost often—and she certainly does—she goes in the wrong direction; instead of going to Compostela, she turns her back on it and heads south through Portugal. This has a drawback; she often loses her way, but it's only to find herself again." During this 630 km solo hike, she savored the intimacy of silence, the intensity of fleeting encounters, the ever-changing beauty of the world, and, day after day, tirelessly gathered a wealth of extraordinary coincidences.
