Magrit Champagne
Magrit was born on Ascension Thursday, 1942, in a pretty little town in the Touraine region. After her parents' separation, her schooling was chaotic and unconventional. The village priest imparted some basic knowledge to her, a few hours a week. This lack of formal education led to profound frustration. Intrigued by human behavior, and widowed just before her 40th birthday, Magrit began studying psychology. She became an addiction specialist and then a psychoanalyst. She also discovered a passion for reading, devouring authors such as Nietzsche, Spinoza, Proust, and Simone Veil. She met the writer Michel Dansel, who encouraged her to write novels. His narrative style and unusual characters undoubtedly influenced Magrit's writing. Now in her eighties, living in a small village in the Vendée region, she continues to write as much to share slices of her life as for the pleasure of playing with the words of what she calls "the most beautiful French language."
One night, Aline has a terrible nightmare in which she sees Adrien, her beloved, struggling in water as black as a moonless night. She goes to the houseboat, their love nest. Grabbed by a man who drags her inside, she finds Adrien in a very bad way. This scene is the beginning of an epic journey between dream and reality, between fiction and autobiography. Aline takes us on a dreamlike voyage around the world, encountering places she may have visited... or not, where she may have experienced extraordinary adventures... or not. Part thriller, part memoir of an exceptional life, Aline draws the reader into her quest with a convincing innocence. As we read, we are driven by a single desire: to follow in her footsteps.
