Paul Durand

A physical education teacher in Cayenne, Paris and then in the Lyon region, Paul Durand, now retired, who has always been enamored with History, adventures and travel, wanted with this book "Ciaò Ustica" to find a family pretext to link his passions.

“Yes, you’ll go with them, because a young woman of your station, a ‘donna Calderaro,’ doesn’t work, and apart from housework with your mother, I have nothing to offer you on our ships.” “But Papa, it’s a great idea, maybe for Agnese, my brother Agostino’s fiancée, who’s accompanying him to his barracks there, but not for me. I don’t want to leave my beautiful island of Ustica, which I love so much!” “You mustn’t question my decisions, since I’m the head of the family.” And so, at 16, young Rosalia left the wonderful island of her childhood. From Ustica, she embarked for Palermo, leaving Sicily to join the rest of Italy just as she was completing her military service. She would experience an adventure, a displacement, a tragedy. She would never stop thinking about her former life, which she would idealize. Was this, for her, a journey of no return? Publication date: April 1, 2025 Order Press release
