Florent Quarter
Born into a working-class family, Florent Quartier spent the first years of his life in Roncq, a small town in northern France, in a neighborhood full of retirees, with red brick houses. His love of reading didn't come immediately. He didn't have the chance to see his siblings or parents poring over books on the family sofa during his childhood.

I started writing *A Stay in Arcadia* after three weeks of detention at Her Majesty's Prison in Cardiff. At that point, I hadn't yet gone to trial and I'd just met an inmate during my exercise period who told me, "Dude, I got nine months for stealing food from Tesco." It was at that precise moment that I realized I wasn't going to be released for quite some time. I asked the guards for some paper and a pen, and I got to work in my nine square meters…
