A student from Sacred Heart, born into a well-known Bordeaux family (of Negrita Rum fame), found herself on the stage, then on an international tour as a topless showgirl, and finally landed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as a massage therapist. "Showgirl with a Sacred Heart" depicts my evolution through my turbulent years in the limelight, culminating in my transformation towards inner peace and serenity. It describes my childhood, governed by a strict Catholic upbringing, from which I broke free by studying in Paris and London. With my confidence restored, I began my career in the theater. After the student revolt of 1968, my career took a different turn. I became a topless showgirl and stripper. During a meeting in Hong Kong, my friend David turned out to be a traitor when we stayed in Istanbul. He disappeared, and I found myself alone and penniless. A contract took me to Southeast Asia, where I teamed up with a Trinidadian singer. Together we created several singing and dancing duets (sometimes quite daring), which led to our Trinidad Steel Band, based in Hong Kong and touring Southeast Asia. Four years later, we parted ways, and I landed in New York. For seven years, I lived without a green card. I learned numerology, shiatsu massage, and herbal treatments. After my sister's death in New Mexico in May 1988, I settled in Santa Fe, where I was hired by Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Spa (a Japanese-style spa) as a massage therapist. In 2011, I left that position to become the spa's aesthetic coordinator.
