From Here and Elsewhere Collection, ISSN 3040-2344

The "From Here and Elsewhere" collection, which I have the pleasure of directing at Éditions Douro, evokes an encounter between what is close and familiar (from here) and what is distant, different, or foreign (from elsewhere). It can symbolize a cultural exchange, a merging of origins, or a reflection on the intersecting identities and diverse influences that enrich an individual, a place, or a story.
"From Here and Elsewhere" highlights the dynamics of cultural exchange, where the traditions, knowledge, and perspectives of different cultures meet and mutually transform each other. This can manifest itself in various fields: language, music, art, cuisine, and even ways of thinking. Each encounter between "here" and "elsewhere" creates a unique space for cultural mixing where borders blur to give birth to new expressions.
The idea for this collection, likely influenced by my dual culture, my two nationalities, and my experiences as a globetrotter, also stems from a profound reflection on intersecting identities. In a globalized world, individuals often carry within them multiple heritages, blending local influences with foreign elements. This enriches their understanding of the world and shapes an identity that transcends fixed categories.
On a collective level, these cultural exchanges shape the places themselves, whether they be cosmopolitan cities where flavors and traditions coexist, or communities that reinvent themselves by integrating the contributions of others. Thus, From Here and Elsewhere celebrates the diversity and creative potential of these multiple influences.
