François Prunier

François Prunier

François Prunier was born in 1968 in Maisons-Alfort. In addition to his literary career, he has worked in economic intelligence for about thirty years. He published his first novel in 2003, at the age of 35, with Éditions Stock (reissued two years later by Livre de Poche). Others followed, published by Belfond: *La Margouline*, *Douro*, and *MVO*. His work constantly shifts between different worlds, changing style each time. He knows how to put himself in the skin of a Black American boxer from the 1960s and 1970s (Mise au Poing), in that of a Parisian aristocrat from the Belle Epoque (Swann Page), he pastiches a Russian classic (Dostoevsky: An Eternal Sentence), he writes the imaginary biography of a contemporary painter (The Orphans), he paints a dark portrait of the city of Dunkirk in a ferocious thriller (In Hostile Land), he evokes with great delicacy the mechanisms that will push an adorable little boy towards an unexpected destiny (Martin Roi), he portrays our violently fractured society through the intertwined paths of an obscure writer and a junkie singer (A Concert for Dust), he humorously recounts the disaster of one of his past lives and his divorce (My Leash). But beyond this systematic renewal, he always explores the same constants: childhood, dreams, sexuality, work, the strangeness of the world, passions, violence… From one character to the next, he expresses a very personal and profoundly human universe. The same concerns nourish his poetic work, published by Editions Douro in November 2025, under the title "A Poker Game with the Angel." There, however, they rise to a certain form of mystical quest. The author questions reality, the afterlife, nothingness, evil, love, desire, life… Organized into thirteen "games," this collection consists of very short poems filled with flashes of brilliance, lyricism, and music, ripping away appearances to reveal vertiginous depths and singing of the beauties of this world: "But to watch the poem take shape on the white page, like two or three dance steps of thought." François Prunier directs the SF-Fantasy and Interactions collections at Douro

“You can’t understand, Swann, not yet. A day will come when one of them will hurt you, I mean hurt you deeply.” This novel, which resurrects a Belle Époque legend, is a subtle homage to a major work of French literature. Its writing, both faithful and modern, illuminates its unforgettable characters in a new light. The author, who has published several novels and short stories with Stock, Belfond, and in paperback, previously published a powerful novel about Dostoevsky with Éditions Douro in 2021, titled “Dostoevsky, an Eternal Sentence.” Publication date: September 1, 2023. Corentin Mieck was sixteen when his mother died in the 1960s. Deeply wounded by this loss, which would mark him for life, he entered adulthood like a ghost. But already his destiny was taking hold... As time passed, historical events unfolded (1968, the Vietnam War, the election of François Mitterrand, the Rwandan genocide, the election of Barack Obama), and he encountered strong, often lost, characters struggling with existence and their own demons... All were orphans in their own way, and isn't that the lot of humanity? Imbued with nostalgia and written in a calm and elegant style, this text is a tribute to life, which "is well worth a few burns," as Dostoevsky wrote in "The Eternal Husband." Sentenced to death in 1849, the famous Russian writer Dostoevsky was ultimately pardoned and died thirty years later. At least, that's his official story. But a disturbing, unpublished manuscript received by the narrator casts doubt and fear: what if Dostoevsky had actually been executed in 1849? Publication date: September 1, 2021. Order now
