Louve Sarkel taught science for many years in Reims, her hometown. She then pursued medical studies, which better suited her interests. Despite the workload, she discovered a real pleasure in writing, which led to this first novel.

Young Esther falls in love with a man who rescues her one night from the clutches of a thug. Handsome and wealthy, he marries her and installs her in a sunny villa by the sea. He quickly reveals himself to be authoritarian and demanding. In love, Esther tries to adapt while allowing herself to be molded. He criticizes her weight, isolates her from her friends, and denigrates her family. She gives in to his every whim and ends up a recluse. Under such control, she feels as empty and transparent as the bottles her tyrannical husband empties in the company of disreputable friends. The illusion of happiness to which she vainly tried to cling is then replaced by despair. How can she confront this all-powerful man who revels in toxic relationships? Are sleeping pills the only way to escape him? Will the intervention of an unscrupulous womanizer be enough to rouse her? Publication date: February 1, 2024 Order now
