Carine Raphaëlle
Born in Paris in 1971, Carine Raphaëlle spent her childhood in La Courneuve. It was there that her sensitivity to questions of exile, of elsewhere, and to the connections that form between people took root. After studying literature at the Sorbonne and teaching for seventeen years, her love of music and her passion for words naturally led her to poetry. Deeply involved in the cultural and theatrical life of the Périgord Noir region, the cradle of her maternal family, she also writes for children, published a collection of short stories, and then embarked on writing novels. Now living in Occitanie, and still committed to educational initiatives that stimulate curiosity and sharing, and encourage self-discovery and understanding of others, she continues to pursue her music and writing projects.
In 1956, a child runs down the Algerian mountains to escape the soldiers and his devastated hamlet. His flight ends at the feet of a young conscript who chooses to help him: their lives are forever changed. In the heart of a wounded Algeria, fractured by political tensions, the unfolding drama is above all a human one. This novel recounts how, despite the violence, through intersecting paths, bonds so powerful they shape lives. The characters of Henri, Nadji, Alice, and many others draw us into the wake and swell of their quests, their questions, their painful yet intense experiences. Driven by hope, destinies diverge or intertwine, and gazes are always lost on the other side of the sea. Publication date: July 1, 2023. Order now
