Laurent Rainaud

Georges Duqui

Born in Brest in 1935, married and father of two, Laurent Rainaud, the author's pen name, was called up to serve in Algeria in 1956 for 28 months. A radio operator, he was assigned to various combat units. Upon his return, he began a career as an executive with an American company. In retirement, he devotes himself entirely to writing, his lifelong passion. Several of his novels are set against the backdrop of Algeria and the tragedies that unfolded there. He now lives on the French Riviera.

In 1956, Victor was twenty years old. Like all young men of that era, he was drafted to serve in Algeria. Recently engaged, he refused to marry Cathy, sensing that she wouldn't wait for his return. Cathy was eighteen, beautiful, and possessed a strong libido. Although deeply in love with Victor, her fidelity wouldn't withstand the test of time. Despite knowing this outcome, Victor remained desperate, forever hoping for a change of heart. In the hell of his military life, a chance at redemption presented itself, but he was unable to seize it. He met Danielle, a young local woman who recognized him as her first true love and did everything she could to help him forget his unhappiness. Alas, she failed and helplessly witnessed the shipwreck of their lives. He returned physically unharmed, but could not accept the irrevocable end of his love.
